This week we have another Eagles team bringing the heat from Clay County: The Fleming Island HS Eagles! Fleming Island is in its 12th season as a program, previously under Coach Clint Lyons with three district titles and 6 winning seasons.

This season, Chris Peterson was appointed as the Head Coach. Coach Peterson brings experience as a coach primarily from the boys side of the game, with 6 years as an assistant at Finger Lakes community college (3yrs), Episcopal HS (1yr), and Bartram Trail (2yrs). He began his transition to coaching the girl’s side of the game last season as an assistant coach with Fleming Island. With his passion and love for the game, Peterson wants to instill and promote the same values within this high school program.

Everyone genuinely cares for each other and support(s) each other when facing adversity on and off the field.
— Head Coach Chris Peterson

The Eagles are led this year by four captains: Ann Marie Hawley-Senior (committed to Syracuse), Mackenzie Phillips-Senior (committed to University of Montevallo), Karina Ortiz-Senior, and Sarah Hines-Junior. All of the captains have approached this season as a chance to instill cohesiveness on and off the field, and to build a sense of family that has determination and strength.

“We all support each other, and knowing that we are cared for, loved, and respected means a lot to all of us.”- Sarah Hines, Captain.

”I believe ending practices and games with a family cheer every day really sums up who we are as a team”- Mackenzie Phillips, Captain.

“(They) have been the most welcoming girls I could have ever asked for.”- Ann Marie Hawley, Captain.

With a 5-2 record on the season, at time of publication, Coach Peterson and the Eagles are looking to finish with yet another winning season.

“We are constantly improving and continue to as a family.” -Karina Ortiz, Captain.

Through the strength of their team, and the continued growth this program has seen, they are well on their way! Good luck in the rest of your season Eagles!
